Laura Kirsop is the Director of 1870 Education, a product consultancy that specialises in education and works with a variety of commercial, public, and third sector clients. She runs a community for product managers working in education called EdTech Circle, and is studying the Sociology of Education MA at UCL’s Institute of Education.

Before consulting, Laura was a senior leader in education charities and start-ups for ten years, holding positions such as, Head of Product Management at the Raspberry Pi Foundation, Director of Product at FutureLearn, and Head of Code Club.

Prior to this, Laura spent several years as a primary school teacher in London schools and specialised in Computing and creative, cross-curricular learning. She also worked as a play and youth worker in various settings, from inner-city adventure playgrounds to holiday clubs.

She loves to combine her expertise in play and learning with her skills in digital product leadership, and is passionate about making products that are purposefully designed to be safe, creative, and respectful of digital rights.

Her work has led to a variety of interesting things, such as:

  • being interviewed for the national press (including The Times, ITV News, Radio 4, and Newsround)
  • writing articles for publications such as Wired and The Guardian
  • speaking at a wide range of events, including at the BBC, Google, and the Department for Education
